Skill Development Games and Activities

Shake Hands Toss

  • Players are creating a "net" by shaking hands, then tossing back and forth. They catch with one hand after the bounce.

Defend and Recover

  • There are two teams: Feeders and anglers. The feeder will racquet-feed the ball cross-court and must land it inside the service box. After the feed, he or she must recover all the way to the center of the court and split step with the left foot on the center line. The angler will move up and play a short court angle, recover back to the baseline, and play out the point.

Return The Cannon

  • The server will stand on the service line and try to hit un-returnable serves. The server wins the point if he or she is able to prevent the opponent from returning cross-court. The returner wins if he or she gets it back cross-court.

Alley Rally

  • Players rally back and forth, aiming inside the doubles alley. After each shot, players will recover outside of the alley. Start with any stroke, and then progress to only one stroke, and then alternate strokes.

  • Players rally back and forth, aiming inside the doubles alley. After each shot, players will recover outside of the alley. Start with any stroke, and then progress to only one stroke, and then alternate strokes.

Drop and Play

  • The group is split into teams of three or players on opposite sides of the 60' ft court. With racquet under their arm, the feeder will toss the ball short over the net inside the service box, then back-pedal to the baseline. The dropper will move up and play a short slice, then recover back to the baseline. The point will get played out, and anything goes!

Crazy Feed

  • Two players will play at a time. The attackers start the point by feeding a high ball with heavy topspin, deep in the court. The group will play the point out.

Short Ball Scramble

  • There are two players on the 60' ft court with a bucket of balls. One is the tosser and the other is the hitter. The tosser is feeding a low, short ball to the hitter's outside stroke. The hitter will play a short angle slice in the opposite service box and recover to home base.

In The Freezer

  • One team is serving, the other is returning. The returner is not allowed to move his or her feet.

Card Shark

  • Players will rally the number of times as indicated by the card with the correct stroke. They hold on to their card and run to pick up another.

See The Space

  • Five children will play on a 36' ft court playing in a Champs/Challengers format. The Champ tries to hit all balls back to the center of the court, while the Challenger hits each ball side to side.
